Biography

Dr. Ata Khalid, is working as a Research Assistant on a collaborative Proof of Concept project between Glasgow and Aberdeen University for the development of a solid-state THz source.

Before joining the Glasgow team he has been Technical Director of JK Microtechnology Limited since it began in September 1999. In April 2000 he generated the idea of using an acoustic conduit in a hands free kit to prevent the radiation from the telephone from reaching the user’s head. It was this idea that led to the development of the Safe Talk for Life radiation-free headset.

Dr. Khalid gained his Ph.D. in January 2000 from King’s College London for his work in the creation of a novel ITO technology, and the invention of the Transparent-Gate Field Effect Transistor. He worked at King’s on EPSRC funded projects to fabricate multi-layer Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits on GaAs substrates and the fabrication of self-aligned Double Heterostructure Bipolar Transistors (DHBT5). He received his M.Sc. degree in physics from Govt. College Lahore, Pakistan and, in 1990, his M.Phil degree in experimental semiconductor physics from Quaid-i-Azam University of Islamabad, Pakistan. He worked there as a Research Associate to electrically characterize conductive polymers.
